Call to Order
Ms. Jenkins called the meeting to order at 12:04 p.m.
Minutes
The draft minutes from the August 6, 2015, and August 9, 2015, meetings were previously posted and circulated to Council. The minutes were approved as submitted.
Chairman’s Report
Ms. Jenkins reported that she participated in the CASC Curriculum Retreat held at Montpelier earlier in the month. She invited members to review the draft agendas for the 2015 Executive Program, the 2016 Spring Institute and the 2016 Annual Summer Conference. She has contacted Claire Cardwell about the proposed ethics topic by Lawyers Helping Lawyers. Ms. Olsen mentioned that Jim Peterson has said that he can cover up to 2 hours of ethics at the Annual Summer Conference. Ms. Jenkins also reported that she signed the contract with Capitol Impact to pay for legislative tracking software.

Old Business
CASC Curriculum Retreat Update
Ms. Chambers briefly addressed the draft agendas for the upcoming training programs. She reminded members that these are drafts that are subject to change, but they will give everyone a good idea of what is planned for the coming year. Mr. Doucette added that instead of doing the Supreme Court Update at the beach, the Curriculum Committee is inviting Mr. Wintory to give a motivational presentation at Spring Institute.
CASC Finance Committee Update
Mr. Wright reported that the committee is working on draft bylaws changes to address the Commonwealth’s Attorneys Training Fund. These proposed changes will be circulated at least 10 days before the next meeting. An appropriation request has been made based on figures contained in the spreadsheet that was circulated with the meeting agenda. Ms. Chambers briefly reviewed the numbers and explained that the appropriation request already had to be submitted to the Secretary of Public Safety for approval.
New Business
Amicus Brief Survey
Ms. Chambers circulated a copy of an email she received from Jared Perkins from University of North Texas asking for participation in a survey about amicus briefs. After discussion, a motion was made, seconded and unanimously passed instructing Ms. Chambers to respond to the request by telling Mr. Perkins that Virginia prosecutors very rarely sign on to amicus briefs.

There being no further business before Council, the meeting adjourned at 12:20 p.m. The next regularly scheduled meeting is November 4, 2015, 12:00 noon, at the Henrico County Sheriff’s Office Conference Room.
