Webinar: Crisis Communications for Prosecutors’ Offices: Media Relations During and After the Pandemic

July 9, 2020 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Instructor: Mark R. Weaver (special prosecutor in 12 Ohio counties and former Deputy Attorney General of Ohio)

Mr. Weaver is a crisis communications expert with three decades of experience advising clients in 25 states and at the highest levels of national government and major corporations. He counsels public and private sector clients on crisis communications, executive speech coaching, and news media relations. NBC News in Charlotte, North Carolina called Mr. Weaver “one of the nation’s foremost experts in crisis communications.” Prior to founding Communications Counsel, Mr. Weaver was the Deputy Attorney General of Ohio, where he was responsible for crisis management, strategic counseling, and all communications for an office with 1,400 employees.

Session Description:

Facing the news media or an angry public can be nerve-racking even under the best conditions. Now, Virginia prosecutors are called to communicate complex information about the law, public protection, and local government action to panicked citizens. Effective crisis communications are even more important during a global pandemic

This webinar will feature timely, practical advice on how Virginia prosecutors – in the context of criminal, civil, appellate, and juvenile law – can provide current and relevant public safety updates at a time when county residents are deeply afraid. This session will also help prosecutors advise county officials on public communications.

This will be an interactive lecture with simulations that relate to how prosecutors’ offices should deal with the media, especially in a crisis or emergency situation.
