Call to Order
Mr. Olsen called the meeting to order at 8:41 a.m.
Minutes
The minutes from the August 4, 2016, meeting will be deferred until the Council meeting scheduled for September 21, 2016.
Chairman’s Report
None.
Administrator’s Report
Ms. Chambers reported that she attended the National Association of Prosecutor Coordinators (NAPC) meeting in Philadelphia in July. She was asked to give a presentation on “Who We Are and What We Do”. She reported that other state prosecutor coordinators were very impressed with how much training CASC offers on a limited budget. They also inquired about the process CASC used in creating the Commonwealth’s Attorney Training Fund (CATF).
Old Business
CASC Curriculum Retreat
Mr. Olsen reported that he contacted everyone who he has selected to serve on this year’s Curriculum Committee. He inquired how the RSVP’s are coming for the Curriculum Retreat scheduled for September 15 – 16, 2016, at Berry Hill Resort. Ms. Chambers reported that all but one person had RSVP’d to her.
New Business
Travel Vouchers for New Council Members
Ms. Chambers reviewed the CASC travel voucher form for new Council members. Digital copies were provided along with the meeting agenda.
Board & Council Meetings and Events Schedule
Mr. Olsen quickly reviewed the 2016 – 2017 CASC & VACA calendar that was attached to the agenda.
2019 Spring Institute Venue
Ms. Chambers reported that it is time to think about the venue for 2019 Spring Institute. In recent years CASC has used either Norfolk or Richmond because that is where CASC can find enough affordable meeting space and enough affordable hotel rooms within walking distance. Mr. Olsen suggested exploring Northern Virginia, to which Ms. Chambers responded that the per diem is much higher there. Discussion ensued about possible venues. Mr. Wright cautioned about spending too much of the CATF, especially since it is tied to VRS market investments. After discussion, Mr. Caldwell volunteered to check availability of affordable meeting and lodging space in Roanoke. The decision of the 2019 Spring Institute venue was deferred to the September 21, 2016, meeting.
Council Vacancies Resulting from Re-districting
Due to recent Congressional re-districting, Council has a vacancy in the 4th district. Additionally, the 2nd district now has more members available to serve so Mr. Stolle no longer needs to double up by serving on both Council and the VACA Board. These matters were deferred to the September 21, 2016, meeting.
Adjournment
There being no further business before Council, the meeting adjourned at 9:15 a.m. The next regularly scheduled meeting is September 21, 12:00 noon, at the Henrico County Sheriff’s Office Conference Room.
